Ohio unveils combat license plates

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio is honoring military personnel who have served in combat zones with a new series of license plates available through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

The plates will be officially unveiled Wednesday during an Ohio Department of Public Safety military service award ceremony.

The plates have 40 different distinctions and are available at no additional cost above registration fees.

Legislation that allows the bureau to display the battle star on combat license plates was signed by the governor late last year.

The plates became available in late September, and 21 have been issued.
