ABERDEEN, Md. — The Army is scheduled to break ground Thursday for 4.5-mile high-speed test track at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

The $8.8 million oval will be built at the post’s Automotive Technology Evaluation Facility. It will allow the military to test wheeled and tracked vehicles at high speeds. Some of those vehicles will be heavily armored and weigh as much as 119 tons.

Vehicles will be tested for acceleration, braking, endurance, fuel efficiency and reliability.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded the construction contract to American Infrastructure of Worcester, Pa.
