Still no arrests in Yokota housing burglaries

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — The investigation into last month’s rash of house thefts on Yokota’s east side hasn’t produced an arrest, but the list of suspects is narrowing, base officials said Thursday during the "Commander’s Corner" radio show on Eagle 810.

"We have not caught them yet … but we do have a short list of individuals we consider persons of interest," said Chief Master Sgt. Kevin Peters, superintendent of the 374th Security Forces Squadron.

Security forces said six burglary cases were reported from Oct. 19 to 25, which coincided with a weeklong Operational Readiness Exercise at Yokota. None has occurred since.

"We’ve had more reports of security forces in the area lately than anything else," base commander Col. Jeff Newell said Thursday morning.

All the thefts occurred in garden units between midnight and sunrise as residents slept. In each case, thieves entered through an unlocked door.
