CAMP RED CLOUD, South Korea — A new commander took over the 2nd Infantry Division’s 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team on Friday, following the removal of the brigade’s previous commander.

Col. Thomas C. Graves assumed command at a Camp Casey ceremony and troop review. Graves last served at Campbell Barracks in Heidelberg, Germany.

Graves served in 2004 as deputy commander for 2nd ID’s 2nd Brigade, which at the time was based in South Korea. He deployed with the unit to Iraq that year, one of two Iraq deployments for Graves.

Graves, an infantry officer, is a graduate of the School of Advanced Military Studies at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., as well as Airborne and Ranger School.

He replaces Col. Robert M. Roth, who was removed Oct. 10 after an 8th Army investigation finding of personal misconduct prior to taking command.
