OSWEGO, N.Y. — A former Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps instructor will spend 60 days in jail after pleading guilty to second-degree sexual abuse.

Daniel Aguilar, 53, struck a deal in September that dropped other charges pending against him, including attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment, when he allegedly punched the woman and forced her to perform oral sex, according to a report in the Syracuse, N.Y., Post-Standard. Prosecutors said several factors led to the reduced charges, including the fact Aguilar and the victim had a 3-year relationship at the time of the assault.

Aguilar, who was sentenced this month, will spend six years on probation after his release and must register as a sex offender. He ran the Corps’ Junior ROTC program at Mexico High School for 10 years. He is also a former village trustee and deputy mayor in Pulaski, N.Y.
