Pendleton gunny dies in Iraq

A California-based Marine died Wednesday in Iraq, according to the Defense Department.

Gunnery Sgt. Marcelo R. Velasco, 40, of Miami, died from injuries sustained in a nonhostile incident in Anbar province, the Pentagon reported Friday afternoon. He was assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group out of Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Officials said the incident is being investigated. No further information was immediately available.
