RAF LAKENHEATH, England — The court-martial of Staff Sgt. Aaron Ellis, who is charged with rape and carnal knowledge, is expected to continue throughout the weekend and possibly into Monday.

According to court documents, Ellis, assigned to the 48th Equipment Maintenance Squadron at RAF Lakenheath, is charged in connection with an Oct. 28, 2007, incident in which he allegedly had sexual intercourse with an enlisted Air Force woman who was intoxicated at the time.

Ellis looked on intently Friday, sitting up as prosecutors and his defense counsel questioned a panel of officers and enlisted men and women who, if selected for jury service, will decide his fate.

During the selection process, the prosecuting attorney, Capt. Ben Martin, indicated that the government had a sworn confession from the accused as well as DNA evidence.

The lead defense attorney, Capt. Lauren Torczynski, asked prospective panel members whether they have heard of a false confession.
