The Air Force plans to revamp its fitness program, and if it were up to Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Rodney McKinley alone, that plan would include more than one physical training test a year.

He also encouraged commanders to institute more on-the-spot PT tests — an authority they rarely use.

“We are looking at something for the long haul. not looking for a short-term fix and possibly even changing the ,” McKinley said. “Right now, we are looking at everything.”

Air Force leaders have begun to re-examine the program’s effectiveness and McKinley said any portion could be changed.

Earlier this year, 15 PT leaders who spoke to Air Force Times highlighted four changes they’d like to see:

1. Considering the normal PT test is a stationary bicycle.

They deserve what they get. My last year in the air force they changed from the run to the bike. You ride the bike for about 10 minutes and they check your pulse, plug it into a computer and it says pass or fail. Even with no exercise at all and way overweight, only about 2 weeks of workouts are needed to pass (personal experience).
