INDIANAPOLIS — A welcome home ceremony in Lucas Oil Stadium has honored about 4,500 members of the Indiana Air and Army National Guard who have served overseas.

Among those who marched into the stadium Saturday afternoon were some 3,300 members of the Guard’s 76th Infantry Brigade, who spent nine months in Iraq last year.

Linton Mayor Tom Jones was among the speakers, telling the crowd that Indiana’s communities felt pride for the troops while they were in Iraq, but were eager for their return.

Sgt. 1st Class Ross Williams said the ceremony was somewhat surreal because the downtown Indianapolis stadium wasn’t built when he left on his deployment.
