Gas prices fluctuating in Europe, Azores
Gas prices fluctuating in Europe, Azores
Stars and Stripes
European edition, Friday, February 6, 2009

Gas prices will rise as much as 5.6 cents a gallon Saturday in Germany, the United Kingdom and the Azores, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service announced Thursday.

Prices for AAFES diesel, meanwhile, will fall between 2.2 cents and 4.3 cents a gallon across Europe.

Average stateside gas prices are now at their highest point in 10 weeks, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data. Even so, at $1.892 per gallon the cost of a gallon of gas is about $1.08 less now than it was a year ago in the U.S. following a massive drop in demand and rapid rise in crude oil inventories. The country now has 46 million more barrels of oil in stock than it had a year ago, according to the EIA.

Nevertheless, gas prices in all regions of the U.S. rose over the past week, the EIA reported Monday. The result is an increase of 4.5 cents per gallon for regular in Germany at the few stations where supplies are still available. Mid-grade gas is up 5.3 cents a gallon in Germany and the U.K., and a half cent in the Netherlands.

Premium jumps 5.6 cents in Germany, the U.K. and the Azores, but falls a half cent in the Netherlands.
