The first group of soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard’s 34th Infantry Division will leave Feb. 12 for a 12-month mobilization and deployment to Iraq.

About 1,000 soldiers will serve in Iraq on this deployment, and they will provide command and control for a 16,000-person multinational division in Iraq. The soldiers will operate in eight of Iraq’s 18 provinces, an area roughly the size of Minnesota.
