Fired CO had affair with ex-wife of officer

When a subordinate officer came to Cmdr. Shawn Bentley complaining about a rocky marriage and a deep desire get back together with his estranged wife, Bentley offered to help.

Bentley said he’d talk to the woman, but he did more than talk to her.

He began a sexual relationship with her just a few months after her divorce was finalized, according to an inspector general’s report.

That relationship — and the lies Bentley allegedly told to cover it up — helped get him fired from his job as commander of Fleet Air Recognizance Squadron 3, according to the IG’s report.

Bentley commanded a “TACAMO” squadron, one of three providing airborne communications for the president and the defense secretary to command and control the nation’s nuclear forces of submarines, bombers and missile silos.

1. The lying, yes. The affair? Bullshit.
The divorce was final. The ex-husband's desire to reconcile is totally irrelevant. Dishonorable, my ass. Just further proof that the military has become obsessed with phony honor and has lost sight of simple military virtue.

2. He acted inappropriately--conduct unbecoming an officer. Got what he deserved.
