SAN DIEGO — Two sailors charged in Mexico with attempted murder and assault for an alleged attack on two prostitutes and a hotel employee last week are now facing homicide charges in an unrelated case, Navy officials said late Tuesday.

Mexican authorities Tuesday filed charges of homicide against Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Joshua Dockery, 27, and Aviation Structural Mechanic 3rd Class Jarrett C. Monzingo, 22, for the Jan. 17 death of a Mexican citizen, said Brian O’Rourke, a Navy Region Southwest spokesman.

O’Rourke said he did not have available any details about the Jan. 17 incident or victim. Over the weekend, Mexican authorities had charged Monzingo with attempted homicide and assault and Dockery with assault in the Feb. 5 in a Tijuana hotel.

Dockery and Monzingo were being held at the notorious La Mesa Prison near Tijuana as the investigation continues, O’Rourke said. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is assisting Mexican prosecutors in investigating both alleged incidents, he said.

Navy officials, along with U.S. consulate officials in Tijuana, have arranged for Mexican attorneys for both sailors, he said. “Health and welfare items continue to be provided by the parent commands for both sailors at La Mesa Prison,” he said.
