Military: Soldier killed by bomb in Iraq

BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says an American soldier has been killed by a roadside bomb in southern Iraq.

The statement says the Multi-National Division-Center soldier was killed Sunday but does not provide any further details.

The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. It was the fifth death by hostile fire suffered by U.S. troops in Iraq in the past week.

The latest fatality brings to at least 4,245 the number of U.S. military members who have died in the Iraq war since it began in 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
