OCEANSIDE, Calif. — The Marine Corps is investigating the death of a young Marine who was found dead in his Camp Pendleton barracks room, officials said.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is looking into the death of Pfc. Gregory Kitchen, Lt. Col. Sean Gibson, a Marine Corps Installations-West spokesman at Camp Pendleton, said Tuesday. Gibson said he would not discuss any theories or suspicions at this point.

Kitchen, of Lisbon, N.D., graduated last summer from Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, and was assigned as an H-1 helicopter mechanic at the Camp Pendleton air station, Gibson said. He had earned the National Defense Service Medal.
