Ex-GI accused of identity theft in AAFES case

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A former Fort Campbell soldier has been indicted in federal court on charges of stealing mail and identity information from fellow service members.

The indictment returned by a Louisville grand jury replaces a previous one against 28-year-old Deldrick Toles of Clarksville, Tenn. He was accused in a scheme to defraud the Army Air Force Exchange Service by using other service members’ account numbers to obtain goods and services worth more than $15,000.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Paducah said in a statement Wednesday that charges on Toles’ most recent indictment include bank fraud, aggravated identity theft and mail theft.

Toles faces up to 37 years’ imprisonment and a $1.5 million fine.

Toles’ attorney did not immediately respond to phone messages or e-mail.
