Prosecutor to judge: Do not toss Dix verdict

CAMDEN, N.J. — The government says that a judge should not overturn the conviction of one of the “Fort Dix 5.”

In a court filing this week, federal prosecutors say there is strong evidence that Serdar Tatar was part of a conspiracy to kill military personnel. Authorities say he and four other men who were convicted in December targeted the Army’s Fort Dix.

All five men have asked a judge to overrule the verdict, claiming it wasn’t supported by the evidence. The government responses to the other men’s requests are expected to be filed soon.

Prosecutors say Tatar was motivated by religious reasons to kill soldiers and took concrete steps toward doing so.

The men could face life in prison when they’re sentenced in April.
