Ohio, Ind. Guard troops en route to Iraq

LAWTON, Okla. — More than 400 citizen soldiers from Ohio and Indiana are on their way to Iraq.

About 420 soldiers were recognized Friday during a departure ceremony at Fort Sill for the 1-137th Assault Helicopter Battalion.

Fort Sill officials say the battalion has companies in both Ohio and Indiana. The group will deploy for a year to Iraq, where their mission will be to provide support operations under the 28th Combat Aviation Brigade.

Ohio Assistant Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Matthew Kambic attended the ceremony and congratulated the soldiers for completing the final phase of their training before deployment.
