Master Sergeant Jeff Britt, left, puts his arm around his son Vincent as they spend time together at Camp Spiecher in mid-August. Overlapping deployments to Iraq allowed the pair to enjoy a three-day reunion, their first time spent together in nearly three years. (1744th Transportation Company Photo/Staff Sgt. Mike Chrisman)

Camp Anaconda, Balad, Iraq - There were joyous smiles followed by a giant embrace as an Illinois father and son in Iraq reconnected for the first time in three years.

Recurring military deployments have kept them separated, communicating only through an occasional e-mail or phone call.

“It was a great feeling,” said Master Sgt. Jeffery Britt of Springfield, Ill. “But it was also hard knowing he will be stuck here for another 15 months and I am going home.”

Jeff is finishing his third deployment since 2003, as the lead mechanic with the Streator-based 1744th Transporta-tion Company. His son, Pfc. Vincent Britt, arrived in Iraq this month on his second deployment in two years. He is attached to an active Army unit in Fort Sill, Okla.

Jeff, who has been serving in the military for 28 years, said he is proud of what he and his son are doing in Iraq to support the Global War on Terror.

“I volunteered to come over here and so did my son, and I am proud of that.”
