Hopes sag for Cyber Command at Offutt
Hopes sag for Cyber Command at Offutt

Offutt Air Force Base won't be landing a new major Air Force command — at least not yet.

The Air Force has decided to name Louisiana's Barksdale Air Force Base as the "provisional" headquarters for its new Cyber Command, Air Force officials confirmed Thursday.

Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne first announced the news to a cheering crowd in Shreveport, La., near Barksdale, at a Wednesday night party celebrating the service's 60th anniversary.

A two-star general based at Barksdale now will work to lay the groundwork for the Cyber Command, which will control all of the service's operations in cyberspace, said Ed Gulick, an Air Force spokesman in Washington.

The Air Force also will assign that general, who has yet to be chosen, about 150 personnel. But most of those people are scattered around the country and will not relocate to Louisiana, Gulick said.

The new Cyber Command will operate similarly to the Air Force's Air Combat Command, which coordinates all the services' missions in the air, and the Space Command, which oversees operations in outer space.

uhc comment: Let me see if I have this correct. We now have a new Cyber Command with a two star & 150 people? I wonder what kind of web work those guys n gals will be doing? I sure hope they review the oath they took when they joined the Air Force. In case you forgot it, here's the enlisted oath for the Air Force:

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.
