Otis gets new mission from Air Force
September 16, 2007

BOURNE, Mass. --Otis Air National Guard Base gets a new mission that will keep a military presence at the Cape Cod facility.

Officials today announced that the base will be the home of a new air operations center for the Air Force.

The announcement was hailed as good news for the region's economy and the nation's defense because it keeps more than 500 jobs in the area.

The new mission was pledged by the Air Force when the base's F-15 fighter jets were relocated to a base in western Massachusetts as part of the Pentagon's 2005 base realignment and closure process.

Gov. Patrick, Sen. Edward Kennedy and others celebrated the announcement at Otis Family Day.
