Bush foreign policy ruining the military

Clark tells Manchester Democrats Bush is ruining the military

MANCHESTER (AP) - Retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark said Sunday that the Bush administration's foreign policy is undermining the nation's support for its military.

Clark, who was a candidate for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination, said the president's use of the armed forces has hurt recruitment efforts and eroded public support for the military.

"We have to make our legislators and president understand we believe in a volunteer force, and we expect him to have the leadership to guide our country in the right way in foreign affairs without wrecking the military institutions that keep us safe," Clark said while attending a fundraiser for Manchester Democrats.

He also accused the administration of committing soldiers in Iraq without proper planning and support.

"(Bush) used fear, the fear of the American people to take us into a war that was purely elective," Clark said.

Clark also voiced strong support for Democratic National Committee head Howard Dean, who has been criticized for comments attacking Republicans.

1. Add to bush's incompetence
the cowardly chickenhawk christian conservatives who wave the flag and yet avoid joining the service. Conservatives are ruining this country. General Clark is right.

2. Meanwhile they gut all veterans benefits
they can, they run a war on the cheap, they wage a war based on lies and then they expect young people to enlist. It is going to take years for our military community to recover from all the wrongs this administration has committed. I guess this misuse of our military comes from not having veterans in this administration. At least not having any who bothered to show up.

4. Iraq troops served spoiled (expired) food
I was wondering how many DU'ers took notice of the recent
rump session aired on CSPAN on Halliburton in Iraq;
I didn't catch all of it, but it looked to be one of those unofficial
sessions the Dems are doing (though a joint one as Senators and House members were present).

They aired a videotaped deposition from a gentleman about having run a food services outfit for Halliburton over in Iraq for some time.

He reported on many things including that he was made to serve expired food to US troops, some it with dates over 1 year past
expiration. Also, literally serving food after having removed debris from the trucks having taken fire during delivery.

Another buried story . . .
