Meza is seventh Vilseck GI killed in less than two weeks

The Pentagon has released the name of another Vilseck, Germany-based soldier killed in Iraq — the seventh in less than two weeks.

Cpl. Gilberto A. Meza, 21, of Oxnard, Calif., died Saturday in Baghdad of wounds sustained when a roadside bomb exploded near his unit during combat operations.

Meza was a member of 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment. Since the 4,000-strong regiment left Rose Barracks in August, eight men have been killed.

Nicknamed the “Dragoons,” the unit is in the early stages of a 15-month deployment in and around Baghdad.

After attending several high schools in his hometown, Meza received his GED from the Oxnard Union High School District in 2004, the Ventura County Star reported. Further biographical information was not available Thursday.

uhc comment: These guys have inherited the mean streets of Baghdad.
