NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — An Indiana National Guardsman pleaded guilty Thursday to sexually assaulting teenage girls he met while recruiting at Indianapolis-area high schools.

At a hearing in Hamilton Superior Court, Sgt. Eric P. Vetesy admitted to 10 of the 39 counts against him, including sexual battery, official misconduct and corrupt business influence in displaying a pattern of preying on recruits “to arouse or satisfy” his sexual desire.

Prosecutors dropped one count of rape as part of the plea agreement, which must by approved by Judge Steven R. Nation. Nation set sentencing for Dec. 20 and ordered a pre-sentence report by probation officials before deciding whether to accept the agreement.

Vetesy was indicted by a Hamilton County grand jury in 2005 on charges of assaulting six girls he met while recruiting at the high schools. Other charges were added a month later after a seventh young woman contacted authorities. The incidents allegedly occurred in 2003 and 2004 away from the schools in automobiles, at a Guard armory or in a recruiting station.

The indictment prompted the Indiana Guard to implement a policy barring recruiters from being alone with prospective recruits of the opposite sex.

Vetesy, 38, told Nation on Thursday that he started taking medication for depression and bipolar disorder following his indictment.

uhc comment: This may be another case of PTSD rearing its ugly head. Regardless, it is wrong to sexually assault children. Period.
