Why should recruiters need to go to schools to get recruits? Here's what |
|
they really need to do:
1. Read the Letters to the Editor in the local newspapers 2. Look at the names of people who express the following: a. opposition to any new funds for public schools b. undying support for vouchers c. "Support the President" - no matter what d. any use of the phrase "left coast" or "liberal fill-in-the-blank" e. hatred of "the elite" f. support of Wal-Mart (feel free to add more) 3. Look up those people in the phone book 4. Call them and ask them to support the war by sending their kids to Iraq 5. Go to the 4th of July parade - look for the obnoxious morans - ask them to sign up their kids 6. Look for the "Young Morans", er, "Republicans" branch on college campuses 7. Go into the "infrared" areas (as shown by voting #s in the last election) and just walk down the street - ask any warm body who looks physically able to dress themselves and pick up a rifle
Simple, right? Or, should I say, Right?

1. They were hanging out in the fast food places around here |

where the high school kids go on their lunch breaks. The fast food management said they got to be so obnoxious that the patrons were complain. They finally told them to leave - "No solicitation on premises."

3. Wish I could remember the name of the evilDUer who called his local |

recruiters with a 'hot tip' about where there would be about 20,000 strong, healthy, patriotic young men for the weekend and then gave them the location of a big Promise Keepers Rally.
The two of you have some fabulous ideas! Grand stuff.

4. At our local High School they flew a Blackhawk Helicopter in to woo |

the kids. It's a pretty rural, conservative area, and there just isn't a lot of opportunity for kids who aren't going on to school. I'm sure they swayed a few minds that day when they gave all the seniors an "open house" tour of the helicopter.

5. Set up Sunday outside the fundie churchs |
|
That way the recruiters would only have to work one day a week. With that reduced workload, they could better utilize them in say, Iraq.

Sorry but I am in the military so my point of view might be skewed. I think that military recruiters should have the exact same access to high schools as any collage or company during career days held at the school. During my time in high School I saw a recruiter roughly once a year(of course I was in Air Force JROTC). Everyone who wasn't ROTC saw them for the ASVAP test if and only if they elected to take it and career day.
Oh and one more thing #4 on your list is an argument that pisses me off. The child volunteers for the military, the parent doesn't send them off, I wish the left would start making that distinction.

9. While I disagree with your point that the military should have the same |
|
access to schools as college reps (one group promotes further education - the purpose of schooling, while the other advocates a sometimes controversial career path) you are right when you say that a parent doesn't "send" a child off to join the military. Parents probably influence kids' choices whether they choose college, the military or beauty school. The "liberal" perspective might be that these days the military is an odd choice and it's hard to understand why a parent would support it. And I do mean "these days"; I am pro-peace but not anti-defense. I hope you can appreciate the difference. And I also hope you are successful, and safe, in your chosen endeavor.

Come on, man; we can do better than ripping off the Army's slogans, right?
Oh, and to points raised elsewhere in the thread, the last thing I want in MY Air Force is more fundie conservative crackpots dragging us down. We need more liberals to keep the military honest.
