Long time no speak
by Sholom Keller | Thu, 10/11/2007 - 2:41pm

Josh Ellis was in my unit, and has been a "friend" of mine on Social Whoring for a while now. I recently contacted him (along with the rest of my old Army buddies) and informed him that I'm living in Philly and editing a veterans' newsletter. He gave me his mailing address and I sent him a copy of Sit-Rep, the publication written by and for veterans of the Global War on Terror. He wasn't impressed, and sent me a message:

Sholom,
Do NOT ever send me any more of that hatefull mail. I don not, will not and can not agree with your groups views. I do however still respect you and all of our Veterans.
Josh

Josh,

I apologize if you were offended.

No, wait... Scratch that, I don't apologize. I fail to see what you find hateful about the publication. From front to back, it contains nothing but information and resources for the troops; providing them with far more support than those silly yellow magnets.

Is it hateful to inform servicemembers of their legal rights according to the U.S. Constitution, UCMJ, and military directives?
Is it hateful to mourn a friend and fellow veteran who was screwed over by the VA and died of his psychological war wounds?
Is it hateful to demand that our government fulfill its promise and care for those who have shouldered the burden of sacrifice?
Is it hateful to quote a USMC Major General who was twice awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor? TWICE!!

Every single article, essay, interview, drawing, and poem in that newsletter was penned by veterans of the Global War on Terror. They have all been in Iraq, boots on the ground; with the exception of Jared Hood, who had the courage to resist deployment; and AAP, who conducted the interview before she deployed and who is at this very moment sucking dust in that blunderfuck of a sandbox.

I don't need you to "respect" me. I don't need you to do anything for me. Your country needs you. Your country needs you to man up, grab yourself by the balls, and uphold the oath that you took when you enlisted - to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic."

Especially domestic.
