COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Relatives of a missing Fort Carson soldier said police told them the body found in a reservoir over the weekend was that of the 29-year-old sergeant.

Police have said they do not suspect foul play in the disappearance of Shawn Stoddard, but his uncle said family members do not think he committed suicide.

“There’s still a lot of mysteries and a lot of unanswered questions that we have,” said Randy Garn of St. Anthony, Idaho.

Colorado Springs Fire Department divers recovered the body after a search helicopter hired by Stoddard’s family spotted it in the reservoir Saturday.

An autopsy was performed Sunday but coroner’s investigators were awaiting the results of toxicology tests before listing a cause of death.

Stoddard, a member of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, disappeared from Fort Carson last week. His car was found Oct. 30 near the reservoir.

1. "Shawn has changed since his return from Iraq"
"Words can't express how disturbing this experience has been for our family," Stoddard's family said in a statement. "We are struggling to come to terms with the fact that someone so dear to us has suffered so tragically. Shawn has changed since his return from Iraq and we, as a family, hope he has found peace in his death. Shawn will always be remembered and loved. And he will be missed."
