Thanks!

I finally lost my temper about that Gandhi/King auto-response. Damn, I'm tired of that. And said so.
They're like parrots. "Gandhi! Awk! Martin Luther King! Awk!"
I just reminded them about the curiously selective memories Twue Bewievers have regarding those two...

I saw all those "oh, but God has a Plan!" comments and I thought "Sure, and the Cylons have a Plan, too. This doesn't make me terribly enamoured of your supreme deity."
I almost added that to the thread, but that's just a little too geeky for GD. ;)

You know, so I can report you for screwing over your patients? or do you practice causing psychological harm just for fun?"

4. I took a swing at that one! |

To repeat myself: I can't even imagine the sort of mentality that could come up with such a cruel idea.
Some sort of Fundamentalist Karma notion, I guess.
I wonder about the professional credentials, too.

The degree of psychopathology to believe such a thing is almost unfathomable to me. Talk about your frackin' lovin' gods.

I rather enjoyed it.
Wouldn't it be nice if people thought about it before they started spewing that garbage?
Maybe this one will after reading your post.

That post was so narrow-minded, it was unbelievable. Sounds like something that might come from a conservative's mouth. Very simple thought process...this equals this - that's easy!
On the same thread, check out my snarky-ass reply to reply #47 - one that you also responded to. I'm in an asshole mood tonight, I suppose.

We're all a bunch of hateful atheists!
The first post you responded to, I was floored by that. I really never thought I'd see that from that poster.
And they use the word "christian" to describe a kind and generous person ?
Must be nice to be brainwashed. Thinking hurts.

An atheist friend sometimes says to me that he wishes he could be blissfully ignorant, like so many others.
I say fuck that. I'm plenty glad my head isn't floating obliviously above the clouds. It seems that gravity only applies physically to some people.

15. The real master of incoherence... |

...is that "Wizard" guy. First he's proselytizing like a Jebus Freak, then he's advocating "majik." And here I thought the really cool, Aleister Crowley spelling was "magick."
Algebra comes from a famous alchemist who called himself "al jibber?"
:wtf:
Good grief. Didn't most of us learn where algebra came from in Eighth Grade? And is Google broken?

The old god made us to suffer but will reward us in the next world belief. All you've gotta do is love and obey the cruel, vindictive, magic sky fairy. And those evil atheists want to deny everyone that hope. We're just glum old grumps who don't really understand what life is all about.

10. And I was so tired of fighting tonight. |
|
Sigh...
That last anti-Semitism thread almost took the fight out of me.
What is wrong with this place lately? The hate and bigotry is revolting. It's ten times worse than just a couple of weeks ago. I'm finding out that people I liked and respected on DU aren't what they seemed to be at all.
Of course, nobody from our atheist/skeptic family. What you see is what you get with us. Love us or hate us, no hidden motives here!

I love Mr. Gruff The Atheist Goat. And if a Xian child tried witnessing to me, I would lower my head and butt the brat with my Mr. Gruff horns.
But that Rand coffee cup has got to go.
I think my Official Gruff Coffee Cup has to say: "I (Heart) Anaxagoras." Or maybe "Robert Ingersoll."

...is enough to make me giggle like a loon. I can't even begin to consider what she would have made of being "hearted", but even the mere attempt is extremely amusing.

"I Love Randi" is either support for a leading sceptic, or for a left wing radio presenter. In fact, I thought it already said that (Ayn Rand doesn't spring readily to my mind. Ignorance can be bliss).

23. Kosmic Karma - New Agey culture robbing |
|
As a Daoist, I come across more than my fair share of nut cases who read flip coins to consult the I Ching, rearrange their furniture according to Fung Shei, or think they've achieved some grand master martial arts status because they know a death grip they learned in a book from library. New Agers are the lowest of the low, when it comes to religious nuttery. They steal their beliefs from indigenous peoples around the world, repackage it in the form of plastic trinkets or weekend seminars, and then condemn anyone who belittles their beliefs as close minded.
I have a pretty good tolerance of another persons beliefs. I don't actively go out of my way to argue with religious folks and I try to be respectful of their beliefs as much as I can, provided they reciprocate. However, I draw the line at new agers. These people are borderline racists in my book. They take a cursory interest in some indigenous culture's beliefs and then throw out the hard parts and keep the saccharine fluffy bunny parts for themselves. What really bugs me is that they don't even bother to learn the history of the people they are stealing from, yet claim some divine insight into another man's cultural heritage. Native Americans seem to have suffered the worst at the hands of the new age movement. As if they haven't suffered enough from the White Man, they've had their beliefs misappropriated and repackaged as cheap trinkets to be sold in new age bookstores and gift shops.
/end of rant

No names to avoid the dreaded delete! But in a thread about those "ancient flying machines" found in Egypt, one poster complained that archeologists couldn't tell THE TRUTH (tm). Why not? Because it was a matter of "Egyptian ego."
Those goofy ideas about aliens visiting ancient Egypt aren't just an insult to the Egyptians. They're an insult to all of us. They demean our common, human heritage. They imply that our ancestors...well, at least our Melanin-Enhanced, African ancestors...were too stupid to accomplish these things on their own.
Here's something I wonder about. Egypt had TWO of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: the Pyramids and the Pharos Lighthouse. Pharos was also a technical marvel--the equivalent of a 40-story skyscraper, with mirror technology that I believe is still something of a scientific mystery.
Nobody ever claims the lighthouse was built with Alien Assistance. I'm just guessing, but I suspect that's partly because Pharos was designed by Greeks--melanin-challenged Europeans. And naturally, they wouldn't NEED any help. :sarcasm:
