An unusual request.
You probably don't know Allan, although I suspect some of our heathen bretheren know his popular blog "Fundies say the darndest things".
http://users.rcn.com/rostmd/winace/fundies/
He is in dire need of financial assistance, as he is suffering frm Cyctic Fibrosis. He posted the following on the Atheist Network, and I thought , since I'm not in a financial position at the moment to donate, the least I could do was help raise awareness for him.

"As many of you folks know, I'm pretty sick at the moment. Really sick. Dying-without-a-transplant-I-can't-afford sick. And without the $400-500 thousand down payment required just to put me on an organ waiting list, it doesn't seem all that promising at the moment. Friends and family have been trying to privately fundraise the money I'll need for that operation, but it's extremely daunting. (See the website they set up, at www.Save-Allan.org ; it recounts my story in far more detail, and allows anyone to make a donation online. The Children's Organ Transplant Association, the foremost charity of its type, is accepting those--fully tax-deductible--for my medical expenses).

I was wondering, would the admins consider adding an announcement on my behalf, referring people to the site? Or give me a mention in their email newsletters, or radio show, or anything? It would no doubt bring a ton of traffic and much-needed attention in my direction. I understand if you have a no-soliciting policy, but I figure it's worth a try. While there's no Hell for me to fear, as the blurb on my site says, "...dying kinda sucks, when you think about it."

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and special thanks for those who are able to give.

1. Thank you opiate69
I was afraid to bring it up here since no one knows me and I'm not that familiar with the rules.

This last week Allan has been in critical condition. I'm worried sick each day wondering if he's made it through the night. You see he decided to attempt to fix one of Medicaid's lame reasons for rejecting payment for the transplant. So he had a g-tube put in last Thursday.

Bad plan. He was in so much pain from the surgery that he was unable to cough for about 2 days which is Not Good for a CF patient, so the lung infection got the upper hand. He had 104 fever and has now been on a ventilator for about 4 days. He has surprised the doctors by making it this long but his fiance didn't update yesterday, so I worry. Won't it be ironic if this hospital stay costs more than $400,000?

You see, his doctors said he didn't need to gain weight for a transplant. THEY said it was an advantage to be small as he would gain from the steroids after the operation. But Medicaid used low weight as one of their reasons for rejection (on the 2nd rejection I think) so that is the only reason he had this operation.

His is a prime example of the need for a national healthcare program. You see, New York Medicaid approved him for payment for a transplant.
But there was no hospital in NY willing to do it. UNC was willing to do it so he had to move there and NC Medicaid turned him down with vague reasons, the main one (with 1st rejection notice) being "It's too dangerous". How can you be more dangerous than 100% chance of death without it?

Please excuse if I go on and on here. I'm very emotionally involved on this one.

2. Thank you.
FSTDT is one of my favorite places, and I've linked to it several times here at DU. Even some of the Xians get a kick out of it.

Will see what else I can do...

4. Ohhh ....
I am so sorry ....

I had not visited here, so I had no clue what was going on; but this is a pitiful story which rings of the awful nature of 'conservative' philosophy .... their basic disregard of human life is SO real ....

They do NOT stand for human life: they stand for MONEY alone ....

Allan : I wish I knew you .... Rest in peace, young man ....

7. Oh man! I had no idea!
I just saw that post too and can't believe WinAce is gone. I never knew him at all, but his Fundies Say The Darndest Thing site was always entertaining.

There was a girl I went to school with that had cystic fibrosis. It's a terrible, terrible disease.
