Most annoying aspect of athiesm...
Not believing in a God = Satan worship. :wtf:

I will never understand how people reconcile that in their wee heads. I don't believe in God, who created Satan...thus, Satan worshiper. Brilliant! :eyes:

1. Yeah, I hear that one alot actually
I generally laugh then explain that the non-existence of one is equal to the non-existence of the other. The usual follow up is that either:

1. satan is trying to trick me
2. how do I explain great evil

I usually laugh the first one off and say that if I was worth the effort to "trick" then wouldn't I be worth the effort to get a personal visit from the diety in question to put me right? I mean, if Satan is going to go through all the trouble to make me think that neither he nor god(s) exists, then surely Jesus could show up, flip me his driver's licence, and put an end to it in about 30 seconds.

I usually argue the second that great evil, as defined in modern times, is the biproduct of human civilization.

8. I explain great evil
as the result of one group of people thinking that they are infinitely more important than another group.

Right now, there are 100,000 innocent, dead Iraqis because ...

1) a bunch of Xtians voted for a guy they thought would tear down the Church/State wall and give them control over their fellow citizens (because their views/wishes are more important than the rest of ours)

2) they cheered the idiot on as he bombed another country (because "if we don't fight the war over there, we'll have to fight it here" -- meaning "destroy their country, but don't let anything happen to us" just like Jesus would have said ?!?!)

3) they voted for Bush again because killing 100,000 brown, foreign people (not even Xtians!!!!) is nothing compared to the 3000 (mostly) Americans that SOMEONE killed a few years ago.

Hitler/Jews...
Romans/Christians (early days)...
Serbs/Ethnic Albanians...

It all comes down to "my" group being terribly important and "your" group not really mattering at all.
------------
There's no need to bring the devil into this. If there really WAS a creature who's task it was to bring great evil into the world, he could be on vacation indefinitely -- the Xtians have picked up his workload.

2. Very interesting question!
I mean your title. My answer would be the frustration of not being able to drift free-wheeling into discussions with most of the world. There is always a limit of communication, which is reached as fast as the degree of belief you have in front of you. This is extremely annoying to me, on a daily basis.
As to the satan thing, that's easy: it's totalitarism. If you're not like me, you're against me. If you're not white, you're black.

3. My Freeper Brother told me to "Just believe"
He told me that if I would just "take a step toward Jesus by believing in him" that Jesus "would reward your faith by revealing himself to you,". I said, "So you're telling me to just believe and I'll believe?" He said sure, it's just that simple. I asked him to think about what he'd just said, and to explain to me how it's any different than me telling him to be taller and he'll be taller (he's sensitive about his height). He cocked his head to the side and gave me the same look my Chow does when I ask her about particle physics. We haven't talked since then.

11. Also... Not believing in a God = You Have No Morals
we're just running around willy nilly sinning and committing crimes all over the place! And my children will drop out of school and follow a life of crime because they have no "foundation" of morality.....

A woman actually told me she took her kids to church so that they would know how to make the right decisions later on in life.

Uh huh.

15. And morals were only invented by monotheists...
That's one of my pet peeves too. Specifically, the insane idea that the world was totally without laws or morality until Charlton Heston walked off the mountain with Roy Moore's tablets in his arms.

In fact, if you read the Buy-bull as a piece of bad fiction...cough, cough...it's amazing how the world's greatest historical civilizations are reduced to the role of bit players in a drama about a bunch of bush-league nomads and goat-stealers.

Egypt, Babylon, Persia, Assyria, Rome...they didn't have laws, right?

Heck, the modern Religious Reich would have LOVED the laws of ancient "pagan" Babylon. Adulterers were sewn into a bag together and thrown in the river, and murderers were burned alive.

13. Yes, a quite brilliant logical lunacy.
Madness. Sheer madness. I don't know how you begin to criticise something like that.

14. I think our hymns are too old fashioned
We are loosing a lot of our young people to Christianity because the Christians are keeping current with that hipster music that the young ones like to hear. This may sound radical, but maybe we should just scrap our hymnals altogether!

Ooooh, I wish we blessed pets too, like the catholics do. I sure wish my hermit crab, "Holly" could have been blessed before she contracted that weird disease. May she rest in peace.
