Just got my first message deleted since I got here 2 years ago. Of course, it was about one of the pope's comment, and it wasn't even insulting by reasonable standards. Probably accurate and ironical enough. And you'll never hear about it.

It was about the "Pontifical Academy of 'Sciences'".
I reposted my reply here.
I've seen much worse replies not deleted.
It's really odd.

I am sure the mods are dreading us bursting forth when the Pope dies and setting off a new holy war. Expect to see some a lot of fire suppresant being sprayed around.

3. I've had 2 deleted (both about Israel/Palestinian religious war). |
|
I learned very quickly that people don't want to read my opinions on religious differences and blowing people up in the name of a deity.
As for Il Papa passing away...
Never mind.
I don't want this post to be deleted.

I love that burning bush!
First, it's what I would like to see happen (metaphorically) to the current administration: going down in flames.
Second, it's manmade (I made it at cooltext.com), and it reflects my belief that the biblical burning bush was a fictional (manmade) device, added to the Jesus In The Desert chapter to add excitement to the story.

First of all, I have no idea what you wrote, so this is a general comment that applies to media and society in general and not just to DU.
You can't have an open exchange of ideas if anything that steps on the toes of religious sensibilities is off limits. As an atheist, I think religious people are wrong. I believe in fact, not wishful thinking. I respect people who disagree with me, but I still think they are wrong rather than just having an alternative perspective. I believe there are good reasons to suppose this. I don't razz religious people, however, unless they bring it up. After all, it is not my job to answer questions no one asked.
As an atheist and a skeptic, my "religion" is based on inquiry and ascertaining fact through objective evidence. It may seem strange to call this point of view a religion, but many of the world's religions will seem strange to those only familiar with monotheism. The point is it is as legitimate of a religion as any other and erecting walls around certain subject matters is as restricting to me as telling Catholics they cannot do their roseries for fear of offending Protestants.
