Great post from skepticscott by way of Commie Pinko Dirtbag
Edited on Wed Mar-19-08 07:07 PM by trotsky
Who gave it the prominence it needed in its own thread in R/T:

Every time I hear this kind of crap claiming that so-called "fundamentalist" atheists are every bit as bad as Christian fundies, I throw this at them...

I mention that if Christian fundamentalists had their way in this country…I mean REALLY had their way, with no Constitution, no secular courts, no organizations championing freedom of religion and separation of church and state to get in their way, these are just a few examples of the way things would be:

-Daily religious instruction, prayer and Bible study would be required in all schools.
-Church attendance would be mandatory.
-Only Christians would be allowed to serve in elected office or as judges.
-All laws and all science education would have to conform with the Bible and meet the approval of religious leaders.
-Artificial contraception would be illegal.
-Divorce would be illegal.
-Blasphemy would be illegal.
-Working on the Sabbath would be illegal (except for football players and NASCAR drivers).
-Abortion would be illegal and punishable by death.
-Known homosexuals and atheists would be imprisoned or killed. Homosexual activity would be illegal and punishable by death.
-Extramarital sex would be illegal and punishable by death.

Then I ask them to tell me what the worst-case scenario would be if “fundamentalist" atheists had their way about everything, and then to tell me which world they’d rather live in... haven't had a worthy response yet.

Bravo! :applause:

1. May I play "devils advocate"?
If "Fundamental Atheists" had their way (Fundy christian view)
1. We would hunt down, imprison or kill every christian (or religious people). They will site Pol Pot or Stalin as an example.
2. Sex would be a free-for-all(i.e. homosexuality, bestiality, pedophilia, adultery, etc)
3. Abortion clinics will be at every street corner (just like McDonald's)
4. You can marry anyone, even your pet sheep.
5. Crime would be all time high. (murder, rape, stealing, etc) no morals.

I miss anything?

2. But not one of those things logically follows from atheism.
And specifically regarding your #1, believers (and non-believers) who threatened the power of the state were the targets of those regimes.

9. Yes, of course you are right, but
fundy christians don't care about history unless it's the "bible" or it matches their world view.

3. #1 is a subtle fallacy, and #2-#5 are demented hyperbolic fabrications.
Contrast it with "our" points, which are all true BY THE FUNDIES' OWN ADMISSION.

10. Of course they are, all of them
are fallacies and delusions, though not all are believed by every fundy christian, they usually include 2 or more on their list.

4. Maybe just the Sarcasm label
Not sure if the previous posters picked up on the irony or not. (But thanks, CPD and trotsky, for elevating my humble words). The point made is still a valid one though, against any actual fundy (probably possessing no sense of irony whatsoever) who might make these claims. Everything on my list has been openly advocated at one time or another by fundamentalist Xstians leaders or groups in this country-sometimes in unguarded moments that they backpedal from if they get too much heat, but there's no question that they are all on the fundy wish list for Improving God's Country. On the other hand, no atheist group I know of advocates sheep marriage, child molestation, or a general abandonment of moral behavior as ways of making America a better place.

11. Yeah
though OP was a copy from R/T forum. Thought I would post some of the most demented charges against atheists I hear from fundy christians or see them on their websites.

6. I knew I had something on my blog about this
Not that this counts as a rational response by any means, but it certainly provides comic relief.

Athiests as a Majority

This is what it would be like, if the majority of people were athiests.
ATHIEST KID: Mom, I’m going to go fuck a hooker.
ATHIEST MOM: Okay, son.
ATHIEST KID: Afterwards, I’m going to go smoke pot with my friends, since it’s “not addictive.”
ATHIEST MOM: Okay, come home soon!

The athiest kid leaves the room. The father comes home from work several minutes later.

ATHIEST DAD: Hey!
ATHIEST MOM: Hi, honey! I’m pregnant again. I guess I’ll just get another abortion, since “fetuses don’t count as human life.”
ATHIEST DAD: Okay, get as many abortions as you want!
ATHIEST MOM: Oh, and don’t go in the bedroom.
ATHIEST DAD: Why not?
ATHIEST MOM: There are two gay men fucking eachother in there.
ATHIEST DAD: Why are they here?
ATHIEST MOM: I wanted to watch them do it for awhile. They just aren’t finished yet.
ATHIEST DAD: Okay, that’s fine with me!

Suddenly, their neighbor runs into the house.

ATHIEST NEIGHBOR: Come quick, there’s a Christian outside!
ATHIEST MOM: We’ll be right there!

The athiest couple quickly put on a pair of black robes and hoods. They then exit the house, and run into the street, where a Christian is nailed to a large, wooden X. He is being burned alive. A crowd of athiests stand around him, all wearing black robes and hoods.

RANDOM ATHIEST: Damn you, Christian! We hate you! We claim to be tolerant of all religions. But we really hate your’s! That’s because we athiests are hypocritical like that! Die, Christian!

THE END

Scary, isn’t it?

The Prince of Pain, GameTalk

You have to love how ignorant they are. They can't even come up with a semi-rational scenario of life under the rule of atheist maniacs.

16. Isn't it, though?
One of these days I'll go back there for more material, though right now politicians and politician wannabes (Sally Kern, Mary Frances Forrester, Gary George) are providing me with more than enough.

13. These people CAN'T be real. It has to be satire.
You know, if I took on the task of making a caricature of the "ugly fundy," that's what it'd look like.

The thought that people may ACTUALLY BE LIKE THAT is too frightening, and therefore my mind refuses to accept it.

14. Sadly they are real
I'd made a similar post for the LGBT news Blog I contribute to. This guy was one of the nastiest ones I highlighted:

Homosexuals should be executed if they continue to live in rebellion to God’s law. Everyone deserves a second chance to clean themselves up , but if it continues then Leviticus states that it is an abomination in God’s sight and they must be executed..

Renton405

Somewhere along the way a person on the Christian message board this person frequented came across the post and linked to it. Next thing you know a number of them were taking Renton405 to task for being so vicious (turns out not every Christian wants us dead, even if they disagree with us being gay. Of course Renton was defending (his?) "right" to demand our execution because the Bible says blah blah blah. So typical.

17. Oh yeah, they're real
There's no shortage of them. Enough people either agree with or are indifferent to a Hang the Homos plank in a political platform that this guy got 226,000 votes in a recent Texas GOP senatorial primary.
Judges will execute those convicted of ... homosexual acts (Lev. 18:22, 29; 20:13)

BTW, I was just looking through my server logs. One of the search queries was "I hate atheists". Aye.

19. "I hate atheists"
Said by someone who probably spends his Sundays saying AMEN to phony-baloney exhortations to "love" everyone.

Which is just a cover for hating people in the name of Jesus. :puke:

20. Odd that they never mention the other abominations
that deserve death: touching the flesh of a pig (there goes football), wearing mixed fibre clothing, sassing their parents, and many, many other incredibly inconvenient rules they violate every single day.

They'd be laughable hypocrites if they weren't so damned powerful.

23. Mighty selective, aren't they?
And any time someone brings those other abominations up they have convenient excuses as to why those rules no longer apply, but the ones against gay people (and whoever else they're condemning) are set in stone forever. I swear their brains are pretzels considering the contortions they go through to "prove" their absurd notions.

25. I have to wonder
Do these people think "athy" is an adjective, and that athiest is the superlative of that adjective?

"This is the athiest thing I've ever heard of!"

I posted his most excellent piece on The Gaytheist Agenda and offered religious people the opportunity to provide their scenarios of life under "Fundamentalist Atheists". I'm now waiting for the (no doubt entertaining) answers to start coming in.
