I'm googling to try to find an answer to my question and I stumbled on this number from the Federal Bureau of Prisons: 0.209 % (that's right people!) of the prison population is atheist. Do convicts lie, hoping that the system, or their cell-"mate", will go softer on them?
Edited to add another one: polling from the journal "Nature": 72.2% of the members of the National Academy of Sciences have a "personal disbelief in god" while 20 more % "doubt" or opt for "agnosticism"...
