2. There's that useful word "research" again
How can you disagree with the guy? He's done research. You can't argue with research.

I want to ask him about that nick. "Dadof2LittleAngels?" Wouldn't that literally mean "Father of 2 Small Dead People" and why would he brag about it?

Well, my "interpretation" of his nick is not much goofier than some of the "interpreting" I saw in that thread. Though I admit that I do enjoy these endless theological tussles when all the Xians start slagging each other as "not real Xians."

As our resident expert on ancient texts, FatherofTwoCorpses, put it: No true scottsman does not apply here

You wish!

He also wrote this jaw-dropper: The docs used at Nicea Were identical to the original sources that can be use to reconstruct the NT word for word..

How would he know that? Was he there? And if so, is it true that Athanasius Of Alexandria was violently flatulent?

For a REAL account of the first Council Of Nicea, you can read Charles Freeman's great book The Closing of The Western Mind: The Rise Of Faith and the Fall of Reason.

As I often mention at tedious length, I'm in Alexandria, Egypt--the very city that caused the Council Of Nicea to be convened. One of the main purposes of that council was to settle the debate over the nature of Christ then raging between two rival Xian sects in Alexandria--the Athanasians and the Arians. You can tell who won by the words "Arian Heresy."

In the streets of Alexandria the debate was not only loud but bloody, with riots often breaking out when the two groups met up. According to some experts, Athanasius kept a gang of thugs on call 24/7. Much like a later famous Xian, Adolf Hitler, used his gangs of Brownshirts. (Screw Godwin's Law...)

Just for the record, I'm always a bit leery of experts who can't even spell the subjects of their expertise: ...its just the same recycled garbage people were spitting when they used to claim Pilot did not exist (later corroborated by contemporary secular findings)...

Hey, I think I just spotted a big ol' straw-man in a Roman uniform! It must be Pontius Pilot...er, Pilate. I often see this argument pop up from Xians, that a mysterious Somebody denied Pilate existed.

I don't know of any historian who made that claim. Real experts, as opposed to Xian propagandists, not only knew Pilate existed but knew the names of his predecessor and successor in his job. Pilate's own family name, Pilatii, was famous and dated back to Etruscan times.

But the logic is that us Grumpy Atheists often deny Jesus existed, and we said the same thing about Pilate who turned out to be real. Only the whole argument is made of straw, and not even good-quality straw. In fact, this straw obviously just came out from under the livestock.

The "contemporary secular findings" were interesting in that Xians know about them but continue to get Pilate's title wrong on their websites.

I think he's referring to a temple Pilate built and dedicated to Caesar Augustus. (Nice to know that brown-nosing the boss worked exactly the same 2 millenia ago as it does today!)

The temple cornerstone identified Pilate as the prefect of Judea. "Prefect" was a Roman military title. Most of the Xian websites continue to call Pilate "procurator" of Judea, the Roman title for a civilian governor. I have no idea why. Maybe they just think "procurator" sounds cooler.

It makes sense that the Romans would insist on putting a military man in Judea. The populace had a bad habit of horking up ranting Messiahs who encouraged the local anti-occupation insurgents.

But since the believers insist that critics get every jot and tittle of their facts 110% correct, you'd think they would apply the same exacting standards to their own...er...research.

Insert your own ROFL after that last sentence.
