Heads up: The church shooting in Knoxville may get ugly for us.
Here's the thread.

A neighbor has identified the shooter as having a "problem with religion."

UPDATE 7/27/8 7:08 p.m.: KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A neighbor who says she has known church shooting suspect Jim D. Adkisson, 58, for a few years tells Volunteer TV's Stephen McLamb that Adkisson has a problem with religion that stems from a childhood of being forced to attend church by his parents.

The neighbor says Adkisson believes the Bible contradicts itself.

If this turns out to be true, I can just imagine how this is going to play out in the media. :eyes:

2. This is just so wrong
Why would a guy with issues against Christianity shoot up the one church that welcomes people with issues against Christianity?

Something else is going on here. I suggest they check out his homophobia. That particular church had a well known outreach program for gay youth.

3. Oh, brother
From the thread:
He probably thought he'd take down 10 or 20 people, but GOD used Greg McKendry yesterday to protect dozens of people!

...

The sin of the killer spewing his hate speech for the devil did not win over the love of CHRIST.

For GOD was glorified by the actions of Greg McKendry today!

Even here you won't get away from grovelling lickspittles who can't pass an opportunity to showboat in front of God.

4. UPDATE: Surprise, surprise. He was targeting "liberals and gays".
Do you think the neighbors had an ulterior motive for trying to make him look like a deranged atheist?

5. Like the last church shooting
that roiled the media. Shooter was a "Christian hater" until it turned out he from the most fundamental of fundamentalist families. Looks like these stories are all gonna follow the same goofy trajectory.

6. Police: Man shot churchgoers over liberal views
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - An unemployed man accused of opening fire with a shotgun and killing two people at a Unitarian church apparently targeted the congregation out of hatred for its liberal social policies, police said Monday...

"It appears that what brought him to this horrible event was his lack of being able to obtain a job, his frustration over that and his stated hatred of the liberal movement," Owen said at a news conference.

7. Targeting a UU church over religion is not thinking straight
Turns out the guy was angry at liberals instead. So that makes sense targeting a UU church.

8. Exactly
my family and I are all members of our local UU fellowship. If you hate religion, why go after the one that looks least like a religion (my wife and I argue over whether UU is an actual religion--I say no). No surprise that he hates the liberals.

I think the one positive out of this may be that the UU liberalness gets covered by the media and people are introduced to the church.

10. The picture in your sig reminds me of another one
Two unicorns walking together. It is raining. One is slightly turned towards the other as if speaking. The caption reads:

"When we get to the ark, don't tell them we're gay."

12. It wasn't a book about seminary
I was working on the background information for the main character in an urban fantasy. That book has been put aside so I can work on other projects.

13. how is this a problem for us...
"Adkisson has a problem with religion that stems from a childhood of being forced to attend church by his parents."

This has nothing to do with Atheism. Did you see the guys reading list? Nothing but reich-wing douch baggery he was reading. Savage, Hannity and O'reilly.
