Suggestion for a nonreligious Thanksgiving observance |
|
Write thank-you notes to everyone for whom you are thankful or who did something for you in the past year for which you are thankful. Let them know.
I think it does us all good to be appreciative of the good in our lives, but I would like to see the appreciation directed to the appropriate parties.

2. My partner and I participate in a local "Feed the Hungry" event |

It's quite satisfying. Plus it really irritates theists who can't be bothered to participate in anything like this themselves (my partner and I are both very "out" as atheists), and that's always amusing. After the event, we come home, relax, and go out to dinner with friends in the evening.
I like your idea of the "Thank-you" cards.

I was thinking this morning of how grateful I am to the gal who worked as my partner through election season. Without her I would have lost my mind. I am going to take her flowers this afternoon to serve as a centerpiece for her family dinner tomorrow.
Fortunately I will have my family with me to thank them for their unfailing love and support, especially while I abandoned them during the political season.
Good idea. Don't thank some imaginary diety, thank those directly for the good they've done in your life.

that we eat on that holiday, and to others who try to live a life of concern to help their fellow man with all good intentions.
