Oh oh
Might be a little heat developing here:

Someone claiming the Bible should be considered a historical document even for non-believers.

2. WHAT? Are you nuts?
Run, do not walk, to your nearest shrink, you need to get help and fast!
I'm just your friendly neighborhood troll target!
The only thing I'm good at is focusing my anger (oh and raising orphaned animals-I'm really good with animal babies).
See? I am a person of extremes-not healthy.

(psst! I know Trotsky's secret, he uses the Skeptic's Annotated Bible.)

5. 17 pounds?
Egad, what do you feed them, Xian babies?
Like I should talk, mine eat better than I do. I buy all of the animal supplies first and if there is money left over, I get to eat.

6. Jesus, I thought you were talking about a HUMAN baby
I have no experience with kids, but 17 pounds at 1 year, five months seemed really small...

14. Nothing wrong with calling them babys
We call our dogs "the kids" or sometimes, "the puppy children," But if you were talking about a human baby, I was going to say, "For crying out loud, put down the laptop and feed that child, woman!"

10. It's a Bowdlerized history with little relationship to facts
as biblical historians are slowly discovering as their archaeology in the middle east is turning up a whole lot of contradictions in that book. For one thing, Jericho wasn't a walled city when Joshua took up the trumpet. For another, it seems the great King David was more like a local warlord rather than a magnificent ruler of a large kingdom.

It's like considering the Iliad to be an historical document. We know Athens and Troy had a knock down drag out war, but please! Some of the stuff in there is ridiculous. Same with the bible. It has to be taken with a pound of salt, a grain won't do.

With my one example, that everybody is probably tired of hearing from Egypt earlier this year.

(In the thousands of years that Egyptians recorded their history, Israel is mentioned exactly ONCE. And that recorded a Major Ass-kicking, when the Pharoah took the Egyptian army eastward into Palestine and "crushed" Israel.)

The danger of all this "Bible is history" guff is that when real research proves the Buy-bull wrong, its apologists do what they usually do: make up a special set of rules so they can keep claiming it's Absolutely True History.

e.g.--"Well, the Egyptians would have been embarassed at losing a whole army and a Pharoah in the Red Sea, so they just left it out of their histories."

My mind usually boggles at this point and threatens to shut down completely...

15. Hey, I'm not tired of your Egypt knowledge.
In fact, it's been an extremely useful thing to have around. I did not know that part about Israel! Yeah, I can see how an apologist would come up with that cooky "explanation".
