1. If It Wasn't That... It Would Be Something Else
It's not difficult to imagine some fundy getting miffed that I dare to only say "Jesus" instead of using his full name "Jesus Of Nazareth The Christ And Son Of God And Our Personal Lord And Savior" (note also that I neglected to capitalize the word "his").

I went to these sites the other night and had a great time remembering all the old Bewitched episodes. Have you seen either one?

14. My favorite is still the pilot
Or at least the first episode (I think) when Sam ruins the socialites dinner party. (puts spinach on her teeth, makes her hair sproing, and finally the door opens up and blows her wig and dress off!)

16. I, Darrin, Take This Witch, Samantha
Original airdate 9-17-64. This was the first of four episodes that had opening "back-story" narration. This is the episode that features the most ironic line of the whole series when Samantha says "Maybe I can taper off" (when referring to using her magical powers.)

played by Nancy Kovak. She was Sheila two more times... and she also stared as an Italian winery owner. She gets turned into a Chimp by Serena (I think).

21. I've Pre Ordered The BW Version
I've seen the colorized versions online and they look pretty bad. It reminded me of the first-generation attempts to colorize BW movies (you know... where the blob of color didn't exactly fit inside the outline of whatever it was that was being colorized... and if the person moved quickly, they left a "ghost" blob of color behind that was always trying to catch up to their new location on screen.)

Anyway... even if it were quality colorizing, I think it spoils the CHARM of what the original series was like in 1964.

I hope the DVD's have the ORIGINAL opening credits with the "sponsored by Quaker OATS" and "sponsored by Oscar Mayer". Sometimes they opening credits were "Quaker Oats Presents... Bewitched!"

Elizabeth Montgomery also did some commercial spots that were filmed on the set (but she was out of character) One was for Kodak Instamatic cameras... and they did use some "magic" special effects... and the other I recall was for Clairol hot-roller machine.

If Screen Gems (Sony) has all that old footage, they should include it on the DVDs in the EXTRAS sections.

I've been waiting for this to become reality for YEARS!! I can't wait!!

26. I know I saw that
quaker oats and oscar meyer commercials on the bewitched site. She also did Clairol too.

The Chevy commercial story board with audio of Agnes Moorehead and the boys from Bonanza was neat also.

I hope the DVD's will be chock full of goodies. B&W was best in the originals.

Ok now I feel like I found my long lost buddy, Arwalden, where have ya been?

7. What if we called them "cretins"?
:scared:

Actually, the derivation of "cretin" is, in fact crétien, which means "Christian." French peasants used it is as a euphemism for "idiot," as in "The village idiot may be a little slow, but he's a cretin, just like the rest of us God-fearing churchgoers."

is that it accepts their contention that Jesus was divine. Same problem using Xmas instead of Christmas.

8. It's more than shorthand
It's used in order not to use the name of God -- used that way by those who believe that Jesus was divine. It's the same thing as writing G-d instead of God, as some people, especially devout Jews, do.

That's the origin of the whole X usage. Not shorthand, but religious belief. Thus, if you use it, you're acknowledging their claim.

10. From faqs.org:
1.12. Someone used the term Xtian, and I'm offended. What should I do?

Start by learning the history of term, to understand that there was likely no offense intended.
X is an abbreviation for Christ, arising from the Greek term Christos, which starts with a Greek Chi, written as X. This usage dates back to the 1500s. Thus, the usage is not an attempt to "blot out" the name, or be offensive. However, it is worthwhile to note that for some, even with the historical basis, the term remains offensive.

It should also be noted that some common Yiddish usages, although just a shorthand for many, are considered offensive by some. A good example is the word "shicksa".

Those wishing to avoid offending those bothered by terms such as these might consider choosing alternate phrases.

Just shorthand. If they bitch, I refer them to "Xmas" and the rest of the etymology.

If they remain offended, I must respectfully suggest, with all sincerity and respect for their beliefs, that they just fuck off and die.

38. Important safety tip: Religionist trolls want to control what you think...
... by controlling what you say.

That's one of their favorite techniques, trying to slice words and phrases out of the vocabularies of their critics, by claiming terms of one sort or another are offensive.

Ignore them. Say what's on your mind, and don't ask anyone's permission to do so. :hi:
