Did any of you guys take this ?

Even if YOU don't know what faith you are, Belief-O-Matic™ knows. Answer 20 questions about your concept of God, the afterlife, human nature, and more, and Belief-O-Matic™ will tell you what religion (if any) you practice...or ought to consider practicing.

Warning: Belief-O-Matic™ assumes no legal liability for the ultimate fate of your soul.

http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html?rnd=81

People seem to take this seriously, I think I'll give it a try...

ps: if you don't hear from me again, it's because I was converted instantly upon reading the results.

1. Wow, was I ever wrong about what I thought I was!
Good thing the Belief-o-matic cleared that up for me, I might have gone on being a happy 100% atheist for the rest of my life.

I wonder if there's an 800 number I need to call to get an expert to go over my results with me and tell me what to do next ?

3. Yeah, I thought so too.
I think they should add a
"I think this is all a load of horseshit designed to control the masses"
choice to the selections.

4. It would be a big help
I think UU is where they put people because they don't want to have a category called "ATHEIST." After all, they're measuring BELIEF, something we athiests just don't have.

13. That's their 'nontheist' category
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 09:09 AM by muriel_volestrangler
When you click on it, you get:

Atheists do not believe in a god or deity. Atheists' beliefs are similar to those of the Secular Humanists but do not necessarily include the emphasis on humanity's ability to improve the human condition. Views on contemporary issues vary widely.

Agnostics are inclined to question the existence of supernatural being(s) or a force, e.g., the answer to whether or not God (or Deity) exists would be: "We do not and/or cannot know."

I suspect that most of us made the mistake of actually putting down preferences for some moral choices. I'll try it with the line of "there's no god, and everything else is not applicable" and see what the result is.

On edit: well, even saying there is no god, afterlife, etc. (and syaing that's important), and all moral choices are not applicable, and of low importance, I still get:

1. Unitarian Universalism (100%)
2. Nontheist (98%)
3. Secular Humanism (98%)
4. Theravada Buddhism (91%)
5. Liberal Quakers (62%)
6. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (44%)
7. Neo-Pagan (29%)
...
which, to me, indicates a bias in favour of religion of some kind - any kind. I mean, if you were so apathetic about other people, and your own moral choices, I don't think you'd get much out of a UU meeting, but they still rank it above 'nontheist' and 'secular humanism'.

12. For some bizzare reason that always happens
I don't understand how it can when one emphatically states they don't believe in God, prayer, Satan or any of that nonsense. However it is just a computer program, and therefore fallible.

15. Very true
As much as Beliefnet claims to be "for all beliefs" it shows a distinct bias towards Christianity, but then we're used to that, aren't we? :eyes:
