I am sick of martydom and persecution complexes. I'm also sick of people who support and defend bigotry against GLBT folk calling themselves progressives!

Who the fuck do they think they are?

</rant>

Oh, and I find it sad that when I DO say something nice about believers... it sinks like a stone.

1. I just kicked your
appreciation thread.
I didn't see it because I try to stay away from GD unless something slaps me across the face and I can't ignore it.

I defended catholics yesterday in another thread.
One DU'er claimed that they are responsible for most of the women's clinic bombings and hate crimes.

7. Wow, that DUer isn't well-informed.
We all know fundies do that, not Catholics.

Thanks for the kick, I want more to see it (since it's one of the rare times I say something positive these days, lol).

Oh man, I just said 'lol'. Next I'll be saying 'rofl'.

OH NO! It's started!

8. Things are verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry
strange lately...

You're using lol and rofl, and I'm passionately defending catholics.

I even called a truce with someone after we were at each others throats for weeks.

Could be the heat.

Or the humidity.

Ahem, sorry, got a little paranoid-1950s-red-scare-science-fiction caught in my throat.

:D

2. It's "Church Doctrine!"
At least, that is what I picked up from a few posters.

Progressive Catholics need to speak up.

5. Indeed They Do!! -- Silence Is Equal To Approval And Consent.
Continuation to tithe and to fund the bigotry is also the same: consent and approval.

3. It's infuriating
I don't see ANYONE trying to force our beliefs on Catholics. If they oppose abortion, we don't pressure them to get one. If they oppose birth control, we don't pressure them to use it. If they want to remain abstinent, we're all for it. If they oppose gay marriage, we don't pressure them to marry same sex couples. I can't think of any instance where we pressured them to change their lifestyle to fit our beliefs.

Yet they feel we are oppressing them if we don't allow them to dictate who we have sex with, when we have sex with them, what birth control we use, what medical procedures we get, and who we can marry.

4. Most of the
persecuted catholics theory comes from one place.

I think most DU catholics are very critical of the Vatican policies.

It's funny, the wanna-be-persecuted ones are usually the first ones to bash muslims and scientology.

Go figure.

11. Do as I say, not as I do
I'm just sick and tired of them falling back on the old line of "it's church policy/tradition" crap when explaining away their radical bigotries. Well good then, my radical intolerance of tightassed whackjobs is just a tenet of my religion...the ancient and revered faith of Fundie Slaying!

14. Ha! That, strangely, would be acceptable.
You can get away with saying a lot as a Smartassologist that you can't get away with as an Atheist.

It's interesting that the comments of an Atheist or Agnostic so quickly becomes an attack. But if the exact same comments come from another believer (or similar flavor believer), it is much more acceptable and sometimes even welcome.

:silly:

Why how DARE you ?

Ah, oops, sorry.
Wow.
You're right.
My religion was only a few hours old and I immediately felt threatened by your words.

converting to. I think I already have many of the qualifications for that one :silly:

20. So ... how do we register this religion?
The scientology folks get tax breaks and stuff, right?

How do we push smartassology? Is it based on the premise that if there's an intelligent designer, he/she is a smartass? (see other thread on men's nipples)

22. It shouldn't be that difficult.
I think first we have to figure out which group of people we hate.
Once we know that, the rest is easy, just pick and choose whatever parts of other religions would work for us.

Since the reichwing is rabidly trying to incorporate religion into the government, they probably won't even notice if someone slips an extra cult in there with all the others.

The naming part is tough...it needs to be new-agey and mystical, otherwise the kids won't pick it up.

6. You Noticed That Too, Eh? I Was Afraid It Was "Just Me"...
:eyes:

It's the unmitigated gall... the arrogance... the feeling of "entitlement" that many of them have (and you know WHICH ones I'm talking about).

13. You have a right to be mad.
I've noticed that the attacks on gay folks and atheists are usually very similar. Sometimes you just need to change one or two words for a one-size-fits-all gratuitous attack.

By "gratuitous attack" I mean the threads that pop up. Either "supporting gays is costing us the Morality Vote" or "More Anti-Catholic Bashing."

What goes around comes around and if they are going to stick their nose into government, then we can feel free to stick ours into their matters.
