Bizarre fundie billboard!
This uber-creepy bit of fundie-gelical nonsense is located in Albertville, Alabama. I pass it every morning on the way to work.

It used to say "Are you Risen In Christ Or Damned in Sin" but was recently altered to the version you see here.

What does "Damned in Evolution" mean?

1. Don't you get it!?
EVolution. EVil. Coincedence? I don't think so!

Meh. I'm usually at my sarcastic peak just before I have my morning coffee. I must be off today.

Mmmmm... Coffee... Sweet nectar of the gods.

2. ohhh! Look at the COLORS!!!
Apparently this "Christ" of which they speak is drug slang referring to some serious hallucinogenic medication!

Again they have it backward, like the Truth fish eating the Darwin fish.

4. Speaking of coincidences
Isn't amazing how when people describe religious experiences they sound a lot like drug trips?

13. Would that mean then
that god 'designed' us that way and therefore approves of drug use to put us closer to him? I think a couple of people I knew in college subscribed to that notion. :-)

20. I would love to have some PET scans or MRIs (or similar tests) done
of people describing their religious experiences, or even undergoing religious experiences. Hook them up and let them read the Bible, ramble on about how much they love Jebus, tell the researchers how much God has blessed them. Then compare the brain activity to what is found in drug and alcohol users--or schizophrenics. It would be fascinating to see what similarities occurred.

3. Could you imagine a billboard that said the same thing from our side
"Are you Enlightened in Reason or Ignorant in Religion?"

The cries of persecution would be heard on Mars!

7. the verses
I know not everyone here has the stomach to go look up bible verses, but here are the ones being referenced on the sign:

Heb. 11:3
By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

Oh the genius of Paul, to come up with a bulletproof rebuttal to evolution 1800 years before Darwin proposed it. I stand convinced!

Colossians 2:12
having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

having an aversion to sentence fragments,

Mark 16:16
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Mmmm, condemnents. Can I have brown mustard and extra pickles?

Karl says "Wieners on Buns. No condiments"

9. interchangeability
I'm impressed; they seem to have developed an interchangeable billboard. Geniuses.

You said it used to say "sin" but now it says "evolution."

It will be very popular within the Christian community to have a message board that says "Are you risen in Christ or damned in {something we hate, fear, and don't understand}?"

With all the things they hate, fear, and don't understand, there should be a ton of possibilities!

Who else thinks "evolution" will be replaced by "sodomy" within a couple weeks?

10. Possibly...
It said 'SIN' for a long time. I think the recent re-visiting of 'Creationism v. Evolution' prompted the change, but now that the changeability of the billboard has been discovered, it may yet become a gaudy peephole into the psyche of its fundie owners.

Damned in Sodomy!
Damned in Liberalism!
Damned in Islam!
etc.
etc.

12. You all have probably seen those white text on black billboards......
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 01:24 PM by A HERETIC I AM
all over the country that say things like;
"Have you read my best selling book?" -God

or
"Lets meet at my house on Sunday" -God

or
"You know that "Love thy neighbor" thing? I meant that" God
etc. etc......

I saw a funny parody of those that suggested the following;

"You know that 'Women be subservient to Men' thing? I meant that"
-God

"Psalms 137 9 Read it. Live it. I meant it" -God

(In case you aren't familar, 137 9 says "Happy is he that dasheth the little ones on the stones", meaning smashing the heads of children against rocks. Lovely, eh?)

And my personal favorite;

"I took time away from managing every detail of a vast and complex universe to write on this Billboard" -God

15. There was actually a lawsuit over those stupid billboards...
In Florida, IIRC. Two nutball Fundie groups were both claiming they came up with the idea.

I always wanted to spray-paint a respose to this one:

"Tell the kids about me - God"

"Tell 'em yourself. You ARE omnipotent, aren't you?"

There was here in SoCal for a while.

"Every time you take my name in vain, I make the commute longer."
--God

My reply:
"God is a fucking amateur."

17. HOLY HOLDUP!!!!!!!! That is too funny!!!
I lived in northern LA county from 01 through Sept of 04 and i have seen that billboard. I always thought that sentiment confirmed the xtian god to be nothing more than a vindictive, petulant, incompetant, dick.

You'd never see "Since you Americans are so overwhelmingly Sheep-like, I'll remove every car on the freeways except yours!"
