"Auntie Pinko" blows a Stinko... |
|
Sorry, old girl, but you went down swinging like a garden gate on this one....
"Dear Auntie Pinko, I'm a Christian. In fact, you could call me a fundamentalist Christian (although I find that term a little insulting). I've noticed a lot of Democrats show nothing but contempt for us just because we tend to vote Republican."
Sorry, dear gentle reader, but I think you would find that even if you were an Agnostic or Atheist, a "lot of Democrats" would STILL show nothing but contempt for you. not because you're one of those folk who think dead people rise and live again and the Earth is only 6,000 years old, but because you "tend to vote Republican".
Auntie failed to address that point, instead going into a very informative and I think non-threatening explanation on why the Church should keep their noses out of politics.
Ain't it just like those Fundies? Got to take EVERYTHING and twist it so it looks like they're being PERSECUTED for their FAITH....
"I'm a Christian Fundy ReTHUGlican, WHY don't a lot of DemoRATS LIKE me??? *I* KNOW! It's because I'm CHRISTIAN! Yeahhhhhhh....That's the ticket!"

Some of the biggest assholes whine about how nobody likes them because of their religious beliefs.
I wonder if they use the same logic in the real world...
Like: "Wah, I can't seem to stay in a relationship because of my religious beliefs, wah."
It has absolutely nothing to do with being an uptight, intolerant, self-righteous, narrow-minded, judgemental, sexually repressed priss.
No, it's definitely because of your religion.

I've seen at least one incompetent loser say she can't get a job because she's a born-again Xian and therefore a "threat to the establishment."

How hard is it to keep from mentioning your religious beliefs, or freedom from, in a job interview? It's not like it isn't illegal to ask about that shit to begin with.

There is a whole cottage industry that has grown up of right wing fuckheads going around to these fundamentalist churches and whipping them into a frenzy about how persecuted they are and how Cod wants them to vote Republican. And lest you think we don't have something similar on the left, then I would urge you to take a more critical eye to what's around you -- even here at DU. Politicians of all stripes are using are personal beliefs against us and they're very good at it and have even mastered "viral marketing" in the past decade. This is just one of the reasons why we need to be ruthlessly skeptical and informed about how marketing works.
On edit: Yeah, there's nothing that pisses me off quite like a Christian claiming persecution in the U.S.
