FINDING MY RELIGION: Rik Myslewski is a happy atheist
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/archive/2005/03/01/findrelig.DTL

The United States is often cited as the most devout nation in the Western world; somewhere around 90 percent of the population affirms a belief in God. So, what's it like to be among the 10 percent who do not share that view?
Rik Myslewski is a 54-year-old San Francisco native who studied to become a Catholic priest before dropping out of seminary and eventually abandoning his faith altogether. Myslewski, a former rock musician who is editor in chief of MacAddict magazine, declared himself an atheist when he was in his 20s. Since then, he hasn't looked back.

1. I'm a happy atheist.
And I agree with many things he has to say, particularly the golden rule as a basis for teaching his kids and the part about being wrong.

I can't however agree with the positive assertion that god does not exist. That opens up a whole new can of worms.

4. He asserts it for himself, not for others.
I think he's like most around here. For instance, I don't have absolute knowledge, yet I don't forsee anything happening that would change my mind. I know that no god in the sense that is mostly expressed by common religions is going to appear. I'm pretty confident about that. But there are no absolutes.

MacAddict is an over the top Mac lovers' magazine.

2. Some would argue
that he simply traded in one religion for another -- the cult of the Macintosh.

I'll have to give the article a read.

3. Yeah, they started this series with the atheist
So they could say that they've done that, and they never have to look back. The rest of this series has been structured and unstructured religionists with no further discussion of the life sans faith.
