3. Yeah, really. What are we atheists riding these days, anyway?
Did we get issued winged stallions while I was away?

Anyway, all credit to Taxloss for "Best Post" in that thread, IMO.

:)

4. Thanks chaps.
Nothing creditworthy really, just focusing on the grievance and putting an alternate view. All it took was a deep breath and a little bit of thought.

5. Well, a good outing.
By the time I returned from conducting some business, you guys were all over that one (and the thread was locked.)

I was about to tell what I do believe, and the wall went up. Glad you all got my (your) licks in. Superb!

6. Awesome.
Best sentence:

I feel the Christian left should be conjuring up a bit of fire and brimstone of its own against these un-Christlike individuals, not engaged in a line-drawing exercise that seems more involved with saving face than saving faith.

7. Whew! That was a hot one!
Great reading, and congrats to all the Usual Suspects!

The original post had smoke coming out of my ears, and I was about to give that mofo an example of some real bashing. Perhaps fortunately, the thread was already locked...

9. That was excellent.
What ELSE can it be when they say "Oh, but he's not a REAL Christian"...

They denied Hitler, they deny Rudolph, they denied McVeigh...

"Oh, REAL Christians would NEVER do such monsterous things!"

Guess I've never met one a them "REAL" Xians, then...

11. Bwahahahahahaha!!!
I only EVER point out spelling mistakes to pissants and anyone who is making a pathetic attempt to insult somebody!

Geez, how can anybody take a rant seriously when you misspell the most important word?

Good on him. I can't even entertain those threads anymore.

Silence is complicity. Nuff said.

13. Well done Taxloss!
I'm so tired of the Christians who sit idly by while the vile hatemongers like Roberts, Phelps, et. al. represent their faith for the nation, then whine when the backlash begins. If they don't like the way those vermin are making their religion look in the eyes of the public they need to do something about it, not allow it to happen then whine when it does.

14. Somehwere else on that thread I invoked Pastor Niemoller
Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 06:43 AM by Taxloss
who is almost a DU cliche by repetition, but that doesn't mean what he said wasn't true:

In Germany they first came for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

(On edit: not that I'm equating myself Niemoller.)

...when you enter the Memorial To The Victims in Berlin.

The memorial/museum is located in the old "Bendler-block"--headquarters of the German General Staff during WWII.

That's the building where Hitler and his generals hatched their plans for a pre-emptive war against menacing, aggressive Poland, Belgium, Holland and their potential Weapons Of Mass Destruction...

Whoops! Sorry.

There's also a darker reason to put the memorial in that particular building. As History Geeks will remember, in July 1944 a plot to kill Hitler with a bomb almost succeeded.

In the courtyard of the Bendler-block, the anti-Hitler conspirators were stood up against a wall and shot. You can stand in the exact spot where they were killed.

That's a chilling enough experience, but I visited Berlin in July and got to see the annual memorial ceremony. Most of the courtyard was covered in flowers brought by political leaders, celebrities, and just ordinary Germans who wanted to show their respect.

Inside, there's a whole ROOM showing how the German churches went right along with the Nazis in the Thirties. Huge enlargements of those famous photos showing priests and ministers giving the Nazi salute, fawning over Hitler, etc.
