UC refuses to certify Christian-oriented high school courses
Christian Schools Bring Suit Against UC

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-christian27aug27,1,7818465.story?coll=la-headlines-california&ctrack=1&cset=true

UC admissions authorities have refused to certify high school science courses that use textbooks challenging Darwin's theory of evolution.

Other courses rejected by UC officials include "Christianity's Influence in American History," "Christianity and Morality in American Literature" and "Special Providence: American Government."

The 10-campus UC system requires applicants to complete a variety of courses, including science, mathematics, history, literature and the arts. But in letters to Calvary Chapel, university officials said some of the school's Christian-oriented courses were too narrow to be acceptable.

UC's board of admissions also advised the school that it would not approve biology and science courses that relied primarily on textbooks published by Bob Jones University Press and A Beka Books, two Christian publishers.

1. For those who don't know the Calvary Chapel Spookatorium...
It originated in Orange County, CA (natch) during the 1970's. The oleaginous "Pastor" Chuck Smith aggressively reeled in the surfer/stoner crowd from the OC beaches at that time, and it was a big deal that they didn't have to dress up to come to church.

Despite the casual dress code and "Youth Ministry" horseshit, it is a diehard Fundie church. And like most of these outfits, it is very well funded and blatantly theocratic.

It was probably one of the first "mega-churches," sort of, in that it spawned a purely commercial offshoot called Maranatha Village. This is one of those tacky Xian shopping centers full of blond Jesus-As-Celestial-Stormtrooper pictures, smarmy bumper stickers, and Xian bookstores.

The chapel is also franchised, which makes sense considering the rest of the marketing campaign. And they're spreading like algae:
