Beachmom & Fedup - Stay Dry!
We've been getting hammered all night long and this morning. Not so much with wind (those are only 25 - 35mph) but with rain. Lots and lots of rain. I know you guys are getting it to, so stay safe!

1. Thanks, IB!
It's also been raining like crazy here. I had kind of disrespected Ernesto as being a second rate storm, but darn, today's the type of day you just want to stay home under the covers. Alas, I must go out later.

2. I know what you mean.
Our schools are closed, but I just heard that County employees are expected to be at work on time. x( I'm not quite sure I can get out of my driveway - it's totally flooded. According to WTKR (I think it was) we've had 8 inches of rain since yesterday and it's still coming down. (Hard again.)

3. Oh be careful
That's an awful lot of rain to get. I hope everything is well and that you guys dry out quickly from this.

I can't even get out of my neighborhood due to flooding. This reminds me of another storm we had that said oh it won't be bad. At least the winds are not that high but the rain will not end.

5. Good luck, ladies.
Stay safe, check in often and keep an eye on your umbrellas.

7. Update: many main roads in VB are flooded
My hubby just drove to work and every road is flooded (for locals -- Princess Anne, Dam Neck, Holland -- not sure about Lynnhaven). Meanwhile, my appt. in Norfolk got cancelled because the doctors can't even get out of their driveway -- Norfolk is even worse than Virginia Beach. Okay -- so I guess a little respect is due for ol' Ernesto. And, obviously, looks like I'm staying home today after all.

In the paper, I read that Gov. Kaine had already declared a State of Emergency.

8. Hi, Beachmom
Well I live in the Salem area and I cannot get out of my neighborhood. I cannot remember it ever being flooded in out neighborhood this bad. I didn't make it to Salem Rd. so have no idea how it is towards Independence. I heard it was up to 5 ft, in some areas of Norfolk.

10. Wow -- that's terrible, Fedup
I hope your house is not threatened. Are you guys on lower ground? At this point, I feel quite confident my neighborhood will not get flooded. It's just once you drive out that the conditions started worsening.

Stay safe and dry!

11. Our house
is on higher ground. Mostly the intersections are flooded, I was not going to venture any further and get caught in water to high for my car. I called work and got their answering service, it is located near Mt. Trashmore, so I'm not going anywhere and will stay safe and dry.

13. That's good -- actually now the entrance into my subdivision
is beginning to flood. I just saw some people walking there, and they're up to their ankles. Hope it doesn't worsen too much.

9. Yes, all of you please stay safe
and as dry as possible!

I was thinking of you this morning when I heard our local weather report... I guess we're in for a bit of rain in the next few days here, but I shouldn't complain because we won't get it nearly as badly as you all are.

Good luck!

15. Thelma (rubberstamp) Drake
partisan hack. She was just interviewed and gave props to Chertoff and Allen, and didn't even say that the Gov. had called a state of emergency yesterday. All I heard was Chertoof, Chertoff, Chertoff, Allen, Allen Allen, politicizing witch.

17. Our Gov. (D) called up National Guard troops Wednesday
(I think it was) just to be ready. Maybe one of my senators will visit the affected areas of the state.

We have big patches of flooded areas here on the island, but from what I understand the places in the county that got hit worse are down on Hatteras and up in Duck (where my parents live). Someone said there was 4 or 5 feet of water on the roads in some spots up there. My folks should be fine though because they live on a "hill".

From the teevee this morning, Norfolk looked really flooded. I guess it's a good thing that we've been so dry all summer long. At least the ground wasn't already saturated.

18. Stay well and safe
Floods are no joke and are so unbelievably destructive. I hope all the water stops soon and that the danger areas recede quickly.
