I think we should stop posting "Stop the Kerry bashing" threads. |
|
They only invite more bashing and ugliness, which is contrary to our purpose. That one going on out there now has degenerated into a flame-fest. I really doubt the sincerity of the doofus with 45 posts who really lambasted Kerry, especially after reading about conservatives' attempts to mess with DU on another web board for doctors.
Then some other person, God love her, posts a reply. The thing is that most of us here with high post counts (over 500) know who's being a troll and we ignore it, but some idealistic new DUers (who don't know how many trolls and bad sports muddy the waters around here) feel compelled to reply. This, of course, just gives the trolls what they're looking for.
Therefore, I think we should only post positive things about Kerry, or defend him from attacks in other threads. This calling out bashers only gives the usual suspects more opportunity to spread their usual screed.

I've stopped posting to the flame threads because it only pushes them back to the top. For myself, I usually only have time to run down the threads on the first page anyway. If everybody ignored the flamers, they'd soon slip off into oblivion.

if none of us replied to these posts then many would have dropped down without much attention.
first of all there is no point in replying to many of the people who just want to attack as their intention is not to learn the truth or be reasonable but rather to just bash. and it's a waste of time for us also.as you say, replying to many of them just gives them another reason to spew the same crap.

they just want attention. If its particularly nasty, just alert. A lot of the time, it really does work.
