ISU rally yesterday - Who says Kerry does not connect with people?
What amazes me with Kerry is how this "aloof, patrician, ..." politician connects with young people. They must see something that DC politicians do not see.

Kerry stumps at ISU to urge student political action
'If young people ... refuse to vote, we're in big trouble,' says the Massachusetts senator.

Ames, Ia. - Scott Bents attended Iowa State University in the 1990s, during a time of economic prosperity and political apathy.

Now a graduate student, Bents, 31, said he would never have imagined what unfolded Monday on campus: Students swarmed around Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry to hear him speak about the environment, activism and the war in Iraq.

"I think it's changed," Bents said.

Monday kicked off Political Action Week at ISU, a series of lunchtime speeches from local, state and national leaders on an array of topics, from whether students are treated as second-class citizens in Ames to the role of religion in politics.

Students stood in a line Monday for free hamburgers and potato chips before Kerry, a Democrat, spoke. Many lifted cell phones to take photographs of the former presidential nominee while he spoke.
...
Kerry tried to rally students to get involved in the political process. He also expressed concern about the direction of the country under the Republican administration.

"If young people - too many who know better - refuse to vote, we're in big trouble," he said.

Also, Kerry attended a news conference at ISU's Memorial Union to campaign for Iowa secretary of state candidate Michael Mauro, a Democrat.

1. What a nice welcome. Good write-ups too.
I though this reference was interesting too,

"Many lifted cell phones to take photographs of the former presidential nominee while he spoke."
Aw!How sweet.

Kerry rallies Ohio students

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Returning to the state that dashed his presidential hopes in 2004, Democratic U.S. Sen. John Kerry rallied with college students on Tuesday for next's month elections, urging them to "Take back Ohio, take back our country."

"All of the things that make a difference in the real quality of life are going in the wrong direction," the senator from Massachusetts told about 300 supporters in the rally at Ohio State University.

Kerry, who conceded the 2004 election after he lost Ohio's 20 electoral votes, defended the Democrats Tuesday against accusations by Republicans that it has no ideas, citing plans by Democrats for health care, education, jobs, trade and global warming.

Ohio Democrats hope to gain this fall from a state scandal that has unfolded under Republican leadership that has hurt Gov. Bob Taft and others. Republicans control statewide offices, the House and Senate, and the Ohio Supreme Court.

7. Iowa and New Hampshire
As everyone here knows, Kerry would not have won the nomination in the manner he did if he did not connect with the voters in Iowa and New Hampshire, where connecting with the voters was necessary to win.

Kerry fooled the pundits with the manner in which he came back in 2004. If he is continuing to connect with the voters in states like Iowa, he just might do it again in 2008.
