JK Post on the Dem Daily :The “Retreatican Party?”
The “Retreatican Party?”
Posted by John Kerry
October 3rd, 2006 @ 1:42 pm

So Bill Frist wants the Taliban to be a part of the government in Afghanistan? If we can’t beat them, join them?

Reading the coverage of Bill Frist’s trip to Afghanistan, there’s a lot to say.

I could say it’s Dr. Frist’s worst diagnosis since the public spectacle of his Terri Schiavo diagnosis on the Senate floor.

I could say that Bill Frist who once pathetically labeled Democrats who are right about Iraq the “Defeatocrat Party,” is now the Senate’s leading spokesperson for those who are dead wrong on Afghanistan – the “Retreaticans.”

But all of that would do a disservice to just how profoundly wrong Sen. Frist is about Afghanistan, and how little leadership he’s providing when he just throws his hands up in the air and suggests the only hope is to bring the Taliban into the government as if it’s the inevitable outcome of what American troops began so bravely after September 11th.

Reaching an accommodation with terrorists isn’t the answer. We know what happened when the Taliban was in power Afghanistan: one of the most repressive regimes of modern times ruthlessly brutalized its citizens and allowed the world’s worst terrorists to attack us from its territory. We know they are still receiving support and guidance from al Qaeda as they try desperately to return to the bad old days. And we know they are not part of the democratically elected government we have sacrificed so much for.

1. Perfect!
The ending:

Stop telling the Taliban what they want to hear – and get the job done.

Nice blog comment - You've found a brillant writer. :) The other post on Kerry and Snowe introducing a bill on climate control is great. He sure was busy Friday and none of this seems to be in the news.

6. What is Digg and what is the purpose of
voting this up? What does that do? Is this dual-posted at this location?

7. Digg
is like a news aggregator of sorts. Anyone can join and suggest blog or news stories that they like and people can comment there and then also vote on the posts. It's becoming a very popular site and it's great to use to get stories noticed. A lot of bloggers have Digg linked so readers can rate their stories up.

8. So are the stories on Digg or on your site?
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 09:00 PM by TayTay
If I rate a story up, what is the effect?

I can see a link to a story on your site here at DU. I can then go to the Dem Daily site with the link and read the story. How is Digg different? (Caveat, I never search the web for stories because I get them at work on specialized searchbots. People talk about Google or Yahoo stories being voted up or down, does it have to do with that? )

10. When someone posts a link on Digg
it links to the original story (my blog, a new piece wherever) and rating it up is like voting on DKos or here, the more votes the higher it is on the list of popular stories. Consider it another avenue to share JK news to a whoel lot of folks who might not catch it elsewhere.

11. Here's more on Digg
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14957584/site/newsweek/

"It's the 23rd most popular site on the Web (according to Alexa), and when an item has earned a sufficient number of "diggs" from users to make its front page, it's the digital equivalent of a starlet being discovered in a drugstore."

19. On other stories, I can't figure out how to "digg it" -
On this one when I clicked on Diggit - it is on the Digg page I get. On some other stories - ie the one on Kerry and Snowe's environmental bill, it isn't on the page - Is there a way to push it then?

21. Maybe no one submitted it
On the left side bar of Digg there is a submit a story link. It's all self explanatory once you get started with submitting it.

12. disgusting and stupid, to boot
I assume that Kerry like all Democrats wanted Lieberman to be VP - in 2000 (though I think he would have preferred to be VP himself.

15. what ?
are they attacking Kerry for having said good things about Lieberman in 2000 during the election ?

i'm not even going to read it for myself. but they are probably the same ones who would easily back Gore who actually picked Lieberman .

14. I started to post in response
but decided it was a lost cause - they were responding to Kerry's statement. They were repeating more idiotic things than I ever saw in one place. They are not winnable or looking for info. (Yeah - Kerry's speaking out now because Clinton lost his temper a week or so ago. Kerry sounds as he has since about 2002.)

16. Some of those people over there are just angry people. They aren't
Dem's in some cases and others need to get over 2004, get their facts right and move on. How is it possible to still be so angry over 2004.

17. I think they're paid moles
I think the right pays them to write this shit to keep the left divided and to give Limbaugh fodder for his radio show. Some of it's just too scripted to believe people really mean it.

20. I completely agree!
There was a pattern earlier: an really slanderous article would be posted on a blog, then a really nasty response followed by a rebuttal.

Raw Story is infested with wingnut creeps! What the hell kind of name is "Dems are no better"? Let's call them Pretendocrats!
