JK Huffington Post blog about the Patriot Project
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-kerry/will-you-fight-with-them_b_31937.html

I love this:

When I got off the phone with Patrick Murphy after the chickenshit attacks on his military record, something felt awfully familiar and it got me pissed off. I care about these men and women. They've got guts and they've got brains and they've got heart and I'm telling you they will change the character of this pathetic Congress, and I'm boiling mad watching people who didn't serve attack those who did because they can't win a debate on the merits.

:D

Thanks Senator. You do us proud.

Nitpick the campaign I ran all you want, question the tactics, I can take it -- but above all the small criticisms, I know that I lost to two lies backed up by big money: a lie about Iraq and a lie about my military record. Pundits can feast on the little details, I'm busy this year making sure that no veteran loses to a lie in 2006.

Stand up for the truth by supporting The Patriot Project.

That's right Senator, you tell 'em to 'bite me, I got better things to do than dick around with you losers.' Ah, damn that sounds like home.

You sweet-talking darlin you. Be still my beating heart.

15. Well, he did drop an f-bomb in Rolling Stone
He did catch some flack for it, but FTR - as someone who was not that politically active during the primaries at all, and had no real preference - I thought it was cool when I read the interview. :D

I think context is important. For example: saying "Bush fucked up" in Rolling Stone = cool. Saying "go fuck yourself" on the Senate floor to a colleague = crass and vulgar.

Unless it's someone vile like Stevens. It would've been really interesting (wink wink) for him to say that during the ANWR debate when Stevens objected to his list of names.

However, I'm with you. Time to end this discussion before it gets out of, er, hand.

And trying to break down the image that he's some sort of 'elitest'. We know that he's not. But a lot of people out there just believe what they hear from the MSM on teevee.

26. yeah the "elitist " is now talking like a Duer--
and that should shake DU and DKos up a bit...how can they say out-of-touch now. And it wouldn't hurt if a few outlets like FOX would pick it up and complain about it. He needs them to see a real guy rather than a stuffy one. Never mind the holier-than-thou crowd--those bluenoses are hypocrites and won't ever vote for a Dem anyway.

18. Hey he's breaking his own rules (at least his own blog)
Anyone else feel boxed in, censored, and a little nervous when posting a comment on his blog when faced with that "remember, children may be reading this" warning pops up?

And he's letting "chickenshit" fly? I'm going to have to think this one over. Remember when we gave Paul Hackett a hard time for saying chickenhawk? Now we're giving JK a pass for cursing on a public blog?

Am I the only prude around here? This is different than an off the cuff remark coming out. This was written, and proofread, and some may be offended . . .

Of course, there is the fact that I LOVE it, and it sounds like him. Anyone else worry about a backlash?

20. Well, for my part,
I didn't care so much that Paul Hackett called Bush a chickenhawk son of a bitch. I DID care that DU collectively swooned and decided that he was the next Great Messiah who would Save the Party because he "tells it like it is." Seriously, ALL that furor over Hackett just because he cussed at Bush? That was what I found ludicrous... Hackett's statement in and of itself didn't bother me.

Hey, I wonder if DU will now swoon and fawn over John Kerry for "telling it like it is" and "sticking it to them"?

I won't hold my breath. :eyes:

"boot in their ass" on TV. Seriously, I don't think the notice on the site is about "chickenshit," and it is a perfect characterization of the Liars' cowardly attacks.

I'm sure JK wouldn't hurl the word F*** at another Senator on the Senate floor.

24. He chose the perfect word
chickenshit:

a false statement that is considered to indicate timidity or fear

Also, Rove is out of hiding and has more tricks up his sleeve.http://www.washtimes.com/national/20061018-123042-6508r.htm I mean anyone around the country knows what they are doing. So Kerry uses "chickenshit" on a blog and I get and you probably did too, a flier in the mail on a black background in big white letters "hypocrite" with the dictionary pronunciation and meaning underneath describing Kellam who for others here is running against Cheney Bush lover Drake.

I wish he didn't have to use such a word, but it fits these slimey bastards lies to a T.

33. Lautenberg used 'chickenhawk' in 2004
I honestly don't remember Kerry saying anything about Hackett and chickenhawk. I only remember it being criticized because Hackett's views on the war were to win it and the people going gaga over chickenhawk had no idea what Hackett actually stood for.

As to the blog, I don't think the occasional damn or even shit are the words they're worried about. There wasn't a lot could be done back in 2003 when the Senator said he couldn't have imagined how badly Bush would fuck up Iraq either. I'm sure if everybody were as selective with their language as JK, Dick wouldn't feel the need to make any warnings at all.

27. Great post!
Not *just* the cussing--but the whole thing. Lots of energy and passion, and confidence without arrogance. I'll join the rest of you with some floaty hearts:

:loveya:

The cussing doesn't bother me. The fact that he uses it sparingly gives it more punch, actually.

And besides, there are a LOT of words that we use now that started out as very crass, even profane, language: brown-nose, scumbag, screwed, suck, crap, etc. Heck, even Shakespeare is crammed full of cussing--we just don't always get it.

In fact, I've heard rumors that the Apostle Paul (yes, the one that wrote most the New Testament) had a mouth like a sailor's at times--IN THE BIBLE! (If only we could read and understand koine Greek.)

So I think if it's useful, expressive, and conveys the necessary emotional punch...let loose!

Personally, I don't, because I still end up feeling guilty for using "damn." Can't imagine what would happen if I dropped an F-bomb. :) But, then, I'm still a recovering fundie. Small steps....

I should ask him to tell me all the dirty words in the Bible, hehehe.

I hope my constant barrage of f-bombs don't offend you - I kinda let 'em fly without really thinking, first. Not a good habit I suppose, but eh...

Of course, it's ultra-sexy that John Kerry swears like a sailor.

29. LOL!
WEL, honey, you just drop those F-bombs wherever and whenever you wish. Doesn't bother me a bit. In fact, it's often quite the best way to phrase certain things. I just have a hard time letting myself do it because it was ingrained in me from the time I learned to talk that you can't say "bad words." Now that words are my living, I sometimes find this rather constraining, as cuss words are extremely useful! It's like telling an artist that burnt ochre is not allowed in a painting. Grr!!! :)

I don't understand why we Christians get all bent out of shape about this stuff. They're just words. As a novelist, it irritates me no end because a Christian publisher will turn down my manuscript for using the word "damn" but that same publisher has no problem publishing a book that has a scene in it describing decapitated human heads lined up on a kitchen countertop. Yuck! But apparently violence is just fine for a Christian to read, but we'll be eternally corrupted if we read any expletive stronger than "rats."

This is the world I live in. Pity me. :eyes:

As for your friend who is studying Greek, have him check out Galatians. I don't know Greek, but I've heard that some of his language there is pretty rough and has been smoothed over in our English translations.

And if he's studying Hebrew, tell him I'd really love to know what some of the phrases in Song of Solomon mean. I have a feeling we've tamed down that book, too. :)

30. I think it's a broader American obsession with sex and language
Movies can have literally stomach turning scenes of torture, violence, mutilation, murder, and rape and still be rated R; but OMG a penis or a vagina and suddenly you've got an NC-17 rating. On what planet does that make sense???

I don't understand the obsession with words, either. I think the interpretation of the commandment not to take the Lord's name in vain has been completely obscured by such reasoning. What do you imagine offends God more: someone saying "Goddamn" or Bush saying that God told him to bomb Iraq? I think that whole commandment is meant for exactly people like Bush who use God and Jesus to justify doing very unholy things - but of course, that doesn't suit the fundies, so instead the big sin has become swearing. Meanwhile, false Christians like Dubya continue to hijack God's name to excuse all manner of evil deeds. x(
